Overview
The removable surge arrester is a distribution-type zinc-oxide arrester modified and ingeniously mounted on the drop-out structure of a drop-out fuse, so that the arrester can be conveniently tested, maintained and replaced with an insulating operating rod without interrupting the supply. This not only keeps the line in service but also greatly reduces the workload and time of maintenance personnel, and is especially suitable for places where a supply interruption is undesirable, such as posts and telecommunications, airports and stations, hospitals and busy commercial districts. The other performance of the product is the same as that of distribution-type arresters. The second-generation drop-out arrester adds a disconnector: when an abnormality occurs in the arrester, the power-frequency short-circuit current causes the disconnector to operate, the earthing terminal of the disconnector is released automatically and the arrester element drops down and is taken out of service, preventing further expansion of the accident and enabling maintenance personnel to find and replace it in time; the drop-down principle is similar to that of a fuse tube dropping down when the fuse element melts. The HY5WS-17/50DL-TB removable surge arrester is a typical product of the second-generation drop-out arrester, integrating the zinc-oxide arrester with the drop-out structure.
Our company adopts the current RW12 drop-out mechanism, which gives reliable contact and flexible opening and closing, and uses advanced fittings such as a stainless-steel cover on the composite post, offering the advantages of pollution resistance, fast operation, a wide current range and the ability to withstand the specified current impulse and operating duty. The product performance meets the national standards GB11032-2000 (eqv IEC 60099-4:1991) Metal-oxide surge arresters without gaps for AC systems, JB/T8952-2005 Polymer-housed metal-oxide surge arresters without gaps for AC systems and GB311.1-1997 Insulation coordination for high-voltage transmission and transformation equipment. The HY5WS-17/50DL-TB removable surge arrester is a distribution-type removable product designed and manufactured in accordance with the above national standards.

Removable surge arrester
Features
1. The arrester unit can be installed and removed at any time without de-energising, especially suitable for places where a supply interruption is undesirable.
2. Fitted with a disconnector, the arrester unit drops down automatically when a fault occurs and is taken out of service, keeping the line in normal operation.
3. The dropped-down unit on fault forms a clear indication that is easy to find, allowing timely maintenance and replacement.
4. The arrester has a polymer housing and the drop-out mechanism uses a composite post, giving good hydrophobicity and strong pollution resistance.
Service Conditions
1. Ambient temperature: -40 ℃ to +40 ℃;
2. Altitude not more than 3000 m;
3. Power frequency: 48 Hz to 62 Hz;
4. Max. wind speed not exceeding 35 m/s;
5. Areas with seismic intensity of degree 7 and below.

Note: the parameters of the arrester are the same as those of conventional arresters; the above is the distribution type, which can be replaced by the capacitor type and other types.
Installation & Operating Instructions
1. This product shall be installed on the lines of a system and equipment whose rated voltage is consistent with the rated voltage of the arrester.
2. Before installation and use, check the tightness between the arrester element and the drop-out mechanism to ensure good contact and flexible installation and removal.
3. Adjustment method: turn the copper contact (with pull ring) on the arrester so that the opening pull force is within 6-10 kg, keep the pull-ring side of the copper contact facing outwards, then tighten the lower nut so that the pull ring does not easily rotate.
4. During installation, the arrester shall form an angle of 15-30 degrees with the vertical, and the clearance distance shall be not less than 200 mm;
HY5WS-17/50DL-TBAfter being installed as described above, the removable surge arrester can be tested, maintained and replaced without interrupting the supply.
