JS-8 surge arrester discharge counter
The JS-8 surge arrester discharge counter is used to record the number of operations (discharges) of the arrester under overvoltage; it is installed in series with the arrester in the earthing circuit. An electromagnetic counting mechanism is used inside; when the arrester discharges current, the counter is driven to accumulate. It is suitable for arresters of 35 kV and above used in stations and lines, and can also be used together with three-phase combined overvoltage protection products.
The product has a simple structure, reliable operation and direct reading; it is an important monitoring element for judging whether the arrester has operated and for assessing the frequency of overvoltages in the network. It is installed at the earthing terminal below the arrester for easy reading during patrol inspection.

Operating instructions
1. The counter shall be installed in series with the matching arrester at its earthing terminal, and the earthing resistance shall comply with the requirements of DL/T 621.
2. For detailed description and use of the counter, please refer to our dedicated counter instruction manual.
3. If the arrester is fitted with this counter, the letter “J” shall be added after its standard model designation. For example, HY5WS-17/50-J indicates that a counter has been added to the HY5WS-17/50 arrester.
4. For outdoor installation a protective cover is recommended to avoid long-term exposure to sun and rain affecting the mechanical life. Installed and used as described above, the JS-8 surge arrester discharge counter can accurately record the number of arrester operations over a long period.
